Privacy policy

EasyRentals is run by Easy Branding AI (Pty) Ltd (Registration No. 2026/453740/07), a company registered in South Africa. We are responsible for the personal information you give us on EasyRentals, under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

• Your account: your name, email address and cellphone number, and your password, which we store in a form that cannot be turned back into the password.
• If you list a place: its details, its street address and its photos.
• If you apply for a place: what you fill in (your contact details, work and income, when you want to move in, how many people will live there, pets, references and your message) and the documents you upload, such as your ID, payslips and bank statements.
• A record of each time someone opens one of your documents: who it was and when.
• If you ask for WhatsApp alerts, we keep your number and the search you chose, only to tell you about matching places, until you stop them.
• One cookie that keeps you signed in. We use no advertising or tracking cookies.

• To run your account.
• To show places to people looking for one.
• To give your application to the landlord of the place you applied for, so they can decide whether to rent to you. Your application and documents are used for nothing else.
• To check every listing before it goes live, and to keep scams off EasyRentals.
• To email you when something changes, such as a new application or a decision on yours.

• Anyone can see live listings, without their street address.
• A landlord sees the applications for their own places, with the documents. They see nothing of applications to anyone else.
• The street address of a place is shown only to the people the landlord shortlists or accepts.
• An applicant sees their own application and who has opened their documents. They do not see the landlord's private notes.
• The EasyRentals team sees what it needs to check listings, help you, and deal with complaints.
• We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with anyone else unless the law requires us to.

Service providers store and process your information for us: MongoDB Atlas and Render (our database and our systems), Google (stored documents and photos, and email) and Vercel (this website). Some of their servers are outside South Africa.

• Your account: until you ask us to delete it.
• An application and its documents: while it is open, and for up to 12 months after it closes. You can ask us to delete yours sooner.
• A listing: until you or we remove it.

Everything travels over encrypted connections. Documents are stored privately and can only be opened through EasyRentals, after we check who is asking, and every opening is recorded. Photos lose their location data when they are uploaded.

Under POPIA you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and object to how we use it. Contact our Information Officer below. You can also complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za.

When this policy changes, the date at the top changes too. If a change affects how your application is shared, we will ask for your agreement again.
